About us
Sorry, this website is in Dutch - except this page.
The Ars Floreat Foundation (“may the
arts flourish”) was founded in 1982 from the Dutch School
of Philosophy, to promote the study of literature, arts and
sciences. In practice, the emphasis was on small scale publishing
of spiritual texts. The philosophical basis is the Advaita Vedanta
tradition from India, which is also referred to as the philosophy
of unity (literally: “non-duality”). Important sources
of inspiration include the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the
Bible, the works of Plato and the conversations with Sri Shantananda
Sarasvati, former Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math. This practical
philosophy aims to elevate the mind above the level of daily
troubles and duties, and to enrich human life with understanding,
meditation, practice and love. The activities of Ars Floreat
are performed “pro deo”, by volunteers.
In the course of time, other organisations were founded from
the Dutch School of Philosophy, and a wider co-operation arose.
Ars Floreat’s modest role as a publisher and bookseller diminished.
Ars Floreat now aims to make spiritual texts in Dutch available to a wide
audience. We hope therefore that this website will meet with growing demand.
