Sanskriet - woordenboek
De Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary on CD-Rom kan hier
worden besteld. Deze versie bestaat uit de gescande pagina’s van het omvangrijke woordenboek, met MWD software om de pagina’s toegankelijk te maken.
Op de CD staat behalve de gescande vorm ook een tekstversie, de
gedigitaliseerde versie van de Universiteit van Keulen, met
ca. 160.000 entries. De tekstversie is te gebruiken met MWSDD
V1.5 Beta, een programma met (beperkte) copy/paste functionaliteit.

Na installatie is de gebruikte Harvard-Kyoto translitteratie te
vinden door MWSDD te starten, tweemaal op Help te klikken
en vervolgens te dubbelklikken op HK and ITRANS 5.2 Transliteration
schemes. Deze translitteratie is o.m. van belang om zoektermen
op de juiste wijze in te kunnen voeren.
Voorbeeld uit de tekstversie - eerste betekenis van de klank OM:
A word of solemn affirmation and respectful assent, sometimes translated
by "yes, verily, so be it" (and in this sense compared with
Amen); it is placed at the commencement of most Hindu works,
and as a sacred exclamation may be uttered [but not so as
to be heard by ears profane] at the beginning and end of a reading
of the Vedas or previously to any prayer; it is also regarded
as a particle of auspicious salutation [Hail!]; {om} appears
first in the Upanishads as a mystic monosyllable, and is there
set forth as the object of profound religious meditation, the
highest spiritual efficacy being attributed not only to the
whole word but also to the three sounds {a}, {u}, {m}, of
which it consists; in later times {om} is the mystic name for
the Hindu triad, and represents the union of the three gods.
